Port Everglades Shore Power Electrification
Port Everglades Shore Power Electrification installs shore-power connections at Berths 1 through 3 so docked cruise ships can plug in and shut down their engines, reducing emissions at the port. The work includes state and federal permitting and readiness agreements with cruise lines.
Milestone Progress
Start Date: 03/13/2026 End Date: 02/11/2027
Quarterly Analysis
Completion moved from 31% to 35%, up 4 percentage points quarter over quarter, closing this eight-quarter run with steady progress but an unchanged yellow status. FDEP + Army Corps permitting is in-progress and 15 days past plan, while Berth 1-3 shore-power vaults remain not-started with 120 days to their due point and cruise-line vessel readiness MOUs remain not-started with 200 days to their due point. The arc is clear: the team has steadily de-risked engineering, utility interfaces, berth sequencing, and vessel outreach, but the formal permit gate has not yet cleared. In a fast-growing gateway port, disciplined caution is not pessimism; it is how we protect safety, cruise reliability, cargo flow, and Harborview’s sustainability commitments at the same time.
Recommendations
Continue the 4-point quarterly execution cadence, but require a permit recovery plan with named owners, agency response dates, and a no-later-than decision point for construction packaging. Advance Berth 1-3 vault bid documents to release-ready status, including alternates for prefabricated vaults and night-shift installation windows. Secure at least preliminary written alignment from the priority cruise operators on shore-power testing, plug standards, and vessel availability so the MOU milestone can start cleanly when authorized.
