Terminal 5 Modernization & Checkpoint Expansion
Terminal 5 Modernization and Checkpoint Expansion redesigns the airport concourse, adds two CBP and TSA screening lanes to reduce peak wait times, and builds out new concessions for travelers.
Milestone Progress
Start Date: 09/29/2025 End Date: 12/23/2026
Quarterly Analysis
Completion increased from 36% to 40%, a 4 percentage-point quarter-over-quarter gain, and the initiative closes this eight-quarter arc green. Across the period, the project has moved from 12% to 40% complete while preserving the completed Concourse design + FAA sign-off as the controlling baseline. The two additional CBP/TSA lanes remain in-progress with the 30-day due offset, and concessions build-out remains not-started with the 150-day due offset. The work is now visibly shifting from enabling construction to operational integration, with checkpoint queuing models, tenant utility sleeves, and airline service-desk impacts being coordinated as one terminal plan.
Recommendations
Sustain the steady 4-point quarterly gain by locking the next two quarters of installation windows with TSA, CBP, airlines, and the airport duty managers before summer peaks. Extend the successful passenger-protection model by keeping Ambassadors, temporary wayfinding, and curbside queue monitoring funded through the next major checkpoint phase. Treat the CBP/TSA lane procurement as the single watch item inside an otherwise green program, and require a dated recovery path if the 30-day due offset slips.
